Immediately following the 5th annual Camp Safari, The Preserve offered its first ever Junior Camp Safari for children between the ages of 3 and 6. With the help of professional educator and consultant, Cassandra Kruthoff, The Preserve hosted 13 pre-schoolers for a week of imagination and play inspired by the natural environment. Cassandra, known as ‘Miss Cassie’ by the little ones, holds a Master’s degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and has had extensive experience internationally – most recently as preschool director and teacher at The Island School in South Eleuthera. Miss Cassie planned a week of activities for our young visitors, helping them to explore nature through songs, stories, and crafts. The Junior Campers thoroughly enjoyed their time at The Preserve planting seeds, making insects out of natural materials and bird watching in the wetlands.

The Preserve extends a big thank you to Miss Cassie and our high school volunteers, Kendra, Nicki, and Zepheniah for making our first Junior Camp Safari a huge success!

Campers potted native plant seeds and cared for them for the duration of camp.

Campers got close to nature on the Mangrove Boardwalk.

Campers learned about “baby” plants in the Lath House.

Story time at Ethan’s Tower.
