The National Post Office released a new stamp series that highlights Bahamian endemic plant species. The twenty stamps range from five-cent to ten-dollar denominations and include single-island endemics Symphyotrichum lucayanum (known only from Grand Bahama) and Euphorbia longinsulicola (found only on Long Island).
The stamps are a significant step for the Bahamas toward supporting Target 14 of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation: the importance of plant diversity and the need for its conservation incorporated into communication, education and public awareness programs.
Stamps were issued publicly in September 2019. Species’ selections were determined by the Levy Preserve/Bahamas National Trust.
