Habit: Justicia brandegeeana grows as a shrub up to 1.5 m in heigh. Young vegetation is pubescent. The leaves are arranged oppositely, up to 11 cm in length and 5 cm wide, ovate with an entire margin and acute leaf apex. The leaves are lightly pubescent.
The complete, perfect, zygomorphic flowers are arranged in arching/drooping terminal spikes. Each flower subtended by red, pubescent bracts. The bracts change color with age from a white/cream to the dark red. The calyx has 5, pubescent sepals that are slightly fused at their base. The curved corolla has 5, white in 2 sets (2 upper petals and 3 lower petals). The lower lips are red dotted. There are 2 stamens that are fused to the corolla tube. The superior ovary has 2 locules and numerous ovules. The fruit is a oblong capsule at maturity.
Habitat: Justicia brandegeeana grows in Human Altered environments (yards, gardens, house plants).
Distribution: Justicia brandegeeana is not native to the Lucayan Archipelago. It is native to Mexico and Central America but is grown globally.
Medicinal/Cultural/Economic usage: Justicia brandegeeana is not known to be used medicinally in the Lucayan Archipelago.
It is grown as an ornamental for its bright showy inflorescences.
Justicia brandegeeana escapes cultivation and can be invasive.
