Rumex crispus

Habit: Rumex crispus grows as a glabrous perennial herb to 1 m in height. The leaves are arranged alternately, lower leaves clustered forming a basal rosette, up to 3o cm in length, oblong to lanceolate with an obtuse apex and an undulate leaf margin.

The complete, perfect, actinomorphic flowers are arranged in narrow panicles.  The perianth has 3 green sepals and 3 green petals. There are 6 unfused stamens.  The superior ovary has 1 locule and 1 ovule. The fruit is a triangular, winged achene at maturity.

Habitat: Rumex crispus grows in Human Altered environments (yards, gardens, abandoned fields).

Distribution: Rumex crispus is NOT native to the Lucayan Archipelago but occurs on many of the northern island groupings. It is native to Europe and Asia.

Medicinal/Cultural/Economic usage: Rumex crispus is not known to be used medicinally in the Bahamas.
