Habit: Syngonium podophyllum grows as an epiphytic vine with stems to 2 cm in diameter. Leaves alternate, to 50 cm in length, lamina deeply incised with 5-11 lobes. Outer lobes smaller inner lobes larger, oblong to lanceolate.
The incomplete, imperfect, actinomorphic flowers are in spathes that are up to 6 cm in length. Flowers highly reduced with no calyx or corolla. Staminate flowers with 2 stamens and no carpel. Carpellate flowers have no stamens and a single carpel.
Habitat: Syngonium podophyllum grows in Human Altered environments.
Distribution: Syngonium podophyllum is NOT native to the Lucayan Archipelago. It is native to Mexico and Central America. It is considered an invasive species in many places.
Medicinal/Cultural/Economic usage: Syngonium podophyllum has not been used medicinally in the Bahamas.
Syngonium podophyllum is extremely toxic and no parts should ever be ingested!
The sap can cause skin burns and eye damage.
